"BRING ME
HOME SAFELY" LARGE GODDESS FORTUNA REDUX ROMAN
COIN PENDANT
IN
14 KY GOLD
238
- 244 A.D.
This
amazing MINT CONDITION ancient
silver antoninianus Roman coin possesses rare, exquisite detail. It
was minted during the rule of the Roman emperor Gordian III with a
fantastic reverse side depiction of the Roman goddess FORTUNA REDUX and a
complete and plainly visible inscription around the goddess in Latin.
The quality and preservation of the ancient artwork of this Roman
goddess begged for her to be featured in this beautiful pendant.
The meaning of the FORTUNA REDUX is also one of great importance at this
time in history today as it was back almost 2000 years ago.
Further explained below, Fortuna Redux was the goddess that was called
upon to safely bring soldiers home from war. This ancient Roman
coin pendant would be perfect for anyone with a loved one in the
military. The lustrous brightness of the genuine ancient pure
silver coin wonderfully contrasts with the 14K polished yellow gold wreath
design of the pendant. This is a sizeable coin and the artwork is
perfectly centered and with very high relief and crispness that is
better than the photo shows above. For both its beauty and
meaning, this is an incredible wearable artifact.
Fortuna was the ancient Roman goddess
of luck or fortune. Fortuna Redux was one of the many forms of
Fortuna and was called upon to safely bring people back home. Most
Romans appealed to Fortuna Redux to bring loved ones who were soldiers,
safely home from war.
The translation of REDUX means
"returning" or "coming back". The first recorded invocation of
this goddess was in 19 B.C. when an altar was dedicated to her by the
Roman Senate to ensure the safe return of the Emperor Augustus.
Roman citizens later looked to Fortuna Redux to bring any loved one home
safely, namely, soldiers who were away fighting wars. Numerous
later period Roman altars dedicated to her have been found in what is
now modern day Great Britain which was back then, one of the outer
fringes of the Empire.
This impressive
ancient Roman coin was minted during the rule of Gordian III. Being only 19 years of age,
Gordian was influenced heavily by his household acquaintances. During his
reign, the Persians again invaded Syria. When Gordian entered Antioch at
the head of a large army, the Persians immediately retreated. However
during his stay, Gordian's total reluctance on his mother and other family
members became clear. Thus the eastern armies opted for a new commander
and the tragic cycle continued as young Gordian was killed.
Today,
as it was back in Roman times, the meaning of this coin's goddess,
FORTUNA REDUX, can have many meanings to its new owner. This is a
perfect pendant to wear in the hopes that any loved one is "brought home
safely", in any circumstance, symbolic or literal.
A very large and
impressive pendant at 26mm in overall diameter.
