ROMAN
IMPERIAL GOLD AUREUS OF TIBERIUS COIN PENDANT
IN 14K YELLOW GOLD
14 - 37 A.D.
Unlike any other metal,
gold seems to have a life of its own. Its mesmerizing glow is
nothing less than pure seductive and it is no wonder entire kingdoms have
been put asunder in its pursuit. The coin featured here is a genuine
ancient Roman aureus from the time of Christ. It features the
emperor Tiberius who ruled the Empire from 14 to 37 AD. It is
handsomely framed in a solid ancient 'key design' 14KY gold frame.
The contrasting gold colors make for a superb display of this rare and
valuable genuine antiquity nearly 2000 years old. The
ancient Roman gold aureus was the highest denomination in the Roman Empire
and the standard of Roman numismatics. It was minted from an alloy
of pure gold that translated to 22K purity. Its value was so high
that it was most likely never used in most commerce exchanges compared to
the much more popular silver and bronze coins. During the reign of
Augustus, the step-father of Tiberius, the Roman monetary system was
dramatically reformed. The gold aureus was minted as a regular issue
coin despite its high value. Prior to this change, the aureus was
only issued under special circumstances as a commemorative
issue. The
emperor Tiberius ruled the Empire during the time of Christ. He was
born in 42 BC and was competent military leader with abundant experience
in multiple military campaigns in his early years. Adopted by
Augustus in 4 AD when the last of two of Augustus' real sons died, he was
given the name Tiberius Julius Caesar. Tiberius took the throne as
emperor when Augustus died in 14 AD. Under his rule, the Empire
prospered and life was relatively peaceful.
