GREEK APOLLO BRONZE COIN PENDANT

IN 14KY GOLD

4TH - 2ND CENTURY B.C.

This is a stunningly well-preserved ancient bronze Greek coin pendant featuring a young bust of the God Apollo.  Compared to most ancient bronzes with heavy dark patinas, this specimen was found in a river and features the typical golden tone to the metal known for bronze antiquities excavated from bodies of water.  This coin has features that are much nicer than appear above and splendid relief and detail throughout.  The coin has been mounted in a high polished 14K yellow gold pendant setting.  Fantastic classic Greek art style can be seen in the long flowing hair of Apollo.  A very affordable piece of AUTHENTIC ancient Greek art!

Apollo was one of the greatest of the Olympian gods, and sometimes identified with Helios the sun-god.  He was the god of the intellect, of the arts, of prophecy, of healing, and of light.  His plant was the laurel and he is represented as the perfection of youthful manhood.

Born in the little island of Delos he has been called "the most Greek of all the gods."  He was a beautiful figure in Greek poetry.  Apollo was the master musician who delighted the gods of Olympus with his golden lyre.  He was the Archer- god, master of the silver bow and also, the god of light.  In all the gods like in men, there was a continuous struggle between good and evil but in Apollo, there was almost no darkness at all.  Only briefly was his cruel side shown and in very few myths.  Apollo is also the god of truth - no false word ever fell from his lips, because of this his oracle at Delphi was very important to people, serving and a link between men and gods.  He was also the Healer- god, who first taught men medicine and the art of healing.

His greatest shrine was that of the famous oracle at Delphi, which he had gained by killing the Python, a dragon that had formerly guarded the place.  Of his loves, most noteworthy is that for Daphne, whom he turned into a laurel.

One of Apollo's most important daily tasks was to drive the Sun across the sky in his golden chariot.

Overall diameter is 22 mm.
