As an alternative to all the cliché Christian jewelry, here is a profound and rare alternative to many of the overtly commercial themes.  With its clear and crisp detail, this beautiful large bronze Byzantine coin pendant features a beautiful beaded cross with surrounding beaded and scroll decoration.  The large and rare coin is an anonymous issue folles coin minted under the rule of Nicephorus III nearly 1000 years ago.  This specific coin has one of the finest states of detail and the most beautiful, contrasting patinas we have ever encountered with this type!  The coin alone is about the size of an American quarter.  The stunning high polished 14K yellow gold shrimp design pendant adds considerable size and beauty to frame this wonderful genuine artifact!  A rare and highly valued example to any discriminating collector as well as admirer of fine ancient coin jewelry.

The anonymous bronze folles series was a revolutionary design in Byzantine coinage.  For countless centuries even dating back to the early Roman Empire, coins always featured an emperor and promoted the emperor's rule.  As Christianity dominated the Byzantine culture, a break from tradition was instituted in their coin folles issues to purposely promote Christ and not a man, not even the emperor himself during his own rule.  This was in keeping with Christian beliefs that man is insignificant in the light of God and no man should be worshipped but God alone.  These coins typically feature an image of Christ looking straight at you on the obverse side with the reverse boldly written in Greek, "In Christ, Victory" or "Jesus Christ, King of Kings".  More rare are the coins that substitute a beautiful beaded cross in place of the writing.
