PENTANUMMIUM COIN PENDANT
IN
14KY GOLD
One of the treasured rarities in
ancient coins is the unique patinas they can develop over centuries of
aging. This Byzantine bronze "pentanummium" set in
a 14KY gold pendant has one of the most beautiful green patinas,
perfectly highlighting the detail of the coin. Dating from the 5th
to 7th century AD, this coin shows the Greek letter epsilon denoting 5
nummi (units of monetary measure). The devotion of Byzantine
coinage to Christianity is evident with a small cross off to the side of
the "E". Would also serve as an interesting piece for
someone with an "E" as an initial. Slightly over
1/2" in total diameter.
