A classic coin from medieval Christianity,
this Byzantine anonymous bronze folles dates from 969 A.D. to 1052 A.
D. Slightly smaller than a quarter, these coins featured a
nameless emperor (sometimes shown with Christ) on the obverse and the
writing "Jesus Christ, King of Kings" on the reverse as shown
here. This coin minted from the time of Michael IV has the writing
divided around a visible cross. Beautifully set in 14 KY gold and
sterling.
