BYZANTINE FOLLES COIN NECKLACE

Dating back to the 7th century AD, this work of art features 7 ancient Byzantine traditional bronze folles coins hanging on a heavy curb link 14KY gold 18" necklace.  From a tumultuous time in the Byzantine empire when the entire eastern empire fell to the Arabs just within a 10 year period.  These coins, like all the currency of that region then, were crudely struck on fragments of other coins and sometimes even copper cookware in order to fulfill the immediate need for a currency system.  Similar to the currency of their Byzantine counterparts, the designs were imitative of the previous Byzantine issues.  Like the ancient jewelry of that time, these beautiful and mystical coins are wonderfully complimented by the gold necklace that they dangle from.  Each coin was specifically selected for contrast and art style to make up this highly recommended masterpiece.
